AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION AND EXTENSION

As agriculture has become more sophisticated, the importance of effective transfer of knowhow from campus to farmyard and fie ld has become a science in itself.

The Unit's functions are two-fold: * train extension agents - including a Master's-level program * plan curricula and accredit teachers in agriculture, biology and food sciences for the public school system, and use modern agriculture as an illustration of real-life applications, in natural science education.
The effects of new methods in new settings can be complex. In developing countries extension agents must be aware not only of local climate and soil conditions but also socioeconomic realities: while producing more food, new modes of agriculture may also uproot traditional values.
