Ambrosia beetles
Ambrosia beetles belong to the Scolytinae and Platypodinae, which live in nutritional symbiosis with ambrosia fungi. The beetles colonize the xylem of weakened or recently dead trees, excavate tunnels and cultivate fungal gardens therein. They carry the fungi in their mycangia and feed on them. These beetles differ in the shape of their galleries.
