Bruchidae

A cosmopolitan family of small beetles with about 1,500 described species. The adults, called seed beetles, bear short antennae and short, striated elytra that do not cover the entire abdomen. The eggs are usually placed on legumineous seed pods and the emerging larvae, which possess thick, curved bodies, mine and feed therein.

Major pests include Bruchus pisorum, Callosobruchus chinensis, Callosobruchus maculatu and Caryedon serratus.
