Chalcididae

A family of about 1.500 species of medium-sized chalcidoids that parasitize Coleptera, Diptera and Lepidoptera. A few species are hyperparasites. Their bodies are usually black with yellow, red, or white patches, and their hind legs have swollen and toothed femora. Chalcidids usually attack fully-grown hosts or their pupae. A few species are of biological control interest.
