Cixiidae

A cosmopolitan family of about 2,200 species in the order Hemiptera. The nymphs are subterranean, feeding on roots, the adults, which usually bear darkened wings, usually live on woody plants. Hyalesthes obsoletus transmits stolbur phytoplasma to grapevines.
