Common name: Cossid millers or carpenter millers.

A family of about 450 species in the Lepidoptera, commonly called Cossid millers, carpenter or (due to the spotted wings of the adults) leopard moths. The larvae have large mandibules, an enlarged prothorax, a long life cycle (1-2 years) and they bore in wood. A few, like Zeuzera pyrina may be serious pests of fruit trees.
