Dermestidae

Dermestidae

A small family with about 800 described species of round-to-oval dark Coleoptera with short, club-like antennae. The adults feed on flowers or rotting wool, furs, carpets (hence ‘carpet beetles’) and even carrion and wood. The dark larvae, which are usually scavengers and develop rapidly, are covered with long hairs that occur in tufts, and may cause allergies. Trogoderma granarium is a major, cosmopolitan pest of stored products.
