Drosophilidae

A cosmopolitan family of about 4,000 species in the suborder Brachycera, known as vinegar or pomace flies. They have yellowish bodies, red eyes and plumose antennae. Their maggots develop in fermenting plant residues, like fruits or vegetables. Usually only considered to be a nuisance, one species, Drosophila melanogaster, is an occasional pest of grapes.
