A cosmopolitan family of small moths (Lepidoptera) of more than 4,000 described species, with narrow forewings. The larvae usually carry five pairs of prolegs and feed within spun webs, between leaves, developing fruit or in roots. Pests include the potato tuber moth, Phthorimaea operculella, the pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella, the beet moth, Scrobipalpa ocellatella and the Angoumois grain moth, Sitotroga cerealella.
