Geometridae

Geometridae

A large family (over 20,000 named species) of moths (Lepidoptera) that possess large wings which often bear cryptic colors. The cryptic larvae, also called canker worms, are phytophagous and lack two or three prolegs on the abdomen. Thus they move by drawing their caudal segments to the thorax in a loop-like movement (end are commonly called “loopers”). A representative species is Boarmia selenaria, a pest of avocado and other subtropical fruit crops.
