Heteroptera
A group of about 40,000 species in the order Hemiptera, recognizable by having the basal part of their wings thickened (thus Hemiptera), and by shorter mouthparts. They include the plant-feeding Oxycarenidae, Lygaeidae, Miridae, Pentatomidae, Scutelleridae and Tingidae as well as the predatory Anthocoridae, Geocoridae, Nabidae and Reduvidae, along with the parasitic Cimicidae (bed bugs).
