A group of insect orders that undergo full metamorphosis. The last larval stage transforms during metamorphosis to the pupal stage, within which the pharate adult develops and emerges when fully developed. Adults possess a pair of wings and developed gonads. The term Endopterygota refers to the presence of internal wing-buds during the later stages of the larvae). The Holometabola encompass the orders Coleoptera, Diptera, Hymenoptera and Lepidoptera, which include economically-important plant pests, as well as the carnivorous Neuroptera.
