Intercropping

Intercropping

The practice of growing two (or more) different crops, usually a perennial (like apples) and an annual (like legumes) in adjoining, alternate rows. This provides minerals to the perennials and shelter and nutrients for natural enemies, increasing their abundance and diversity.
