Mollicutes

Mollicutes

A class of simple bacteria, formerly called mycoplasmas or mycoplasma-like organisms (MLOs). They are characterized by the lack of a bacterial cell wall and by their very small genomes. Mollicutes are restricted to the phloem sieve tubes. They are transmitted by leafhopper or psyllid vectors, in which they multiply. Mollicutes that cause plant diseases include Phytoplasmas and Spiroplasmas.
