Nitidulidae
Small, dark beetles whose elytra only partially cover the abdomen and their larvae bear thoratic legs. Commonly called sap beetles, they are attracted to and develop in formerly-damaged fruit. They are strong fliers and the females are quite fecund, each often laying more than 500 eggs. Carpophilus spp. are pests of ripening dates.
