Parahaploidy

A sex-determining system (also called pseudo-arrhenotoky) in which male and female progeny are formed from fertilized eggs, but only the females are diploid. The males are haploid, because its embryo losses the paternal genome during early stages of development. Occurs in some Mesostigmata, like the Phytoseiidae.
