Scolytinae

Scolytinae

A sub-family in the family Curculionidae, recently reduced from familiar rank. Small, cylindrical, dark beetles (Coleoptera), also known as ambrosia or bark beetles, with clubbed antennae. The females lay their eggs in burrowed galleries within the host plant. The legless larvae develop in tree bark (like Hypoborus ficus) or in unripe fruit (like Coccotrypes dactyliperda).
