Sootymold

Dark, saprophytic fungi that grow on the honeydew secreted by sucking insects (various Hemiptera). Sootymolds cause economic damage in two different ways: by contaminating the product, which reduces its market value, and by interfering with the photosynthetic activities of the plant.
