Thumb claw

A structure of the acarine mouthparts. It consists of the claw on the tibia of the palpus, which articulates against the tarsus of the palpus, together forming a pincer-like structure (the “thumb-claw”). Present in many families of the sub-order Prostigmat and very prominent in members of the family the Cheyletidae.
