Large insects with mostly black bodies, and some yellow segments. They carry 11 (in the males) or 12 (in the females) antennal segments and usually bear wings. Various members may be solitary to social (those in the family Vespidae), predatory, parasitoids (like members of the family Scoliidae), or scavengers.
